Blending Modes

Lesson 1. Blending Modes affect how the active layer interacts with the underlying image. You can have it act like ink, darkening the underlying image, or the exact opposite, which would be acting like light, which can only brighten the image. There are dozens of blending modes available. In this video we'll cover Normal, Dissolve, Darken, Multiply, Color Burn, Linear Burn, Darker Color, Lighten, Screen, Color Dodge, Linear Dodge, & Linear Color.I also try to give you multiple examples of how each mode was used in a project.Lesson 2. This lesson shows how to use blending modes such as Hard Light, Linear Light, Overlay, Soft Light, Hard Mix, Pin Light, Difference, Exclusion, Subtract, Hue, Color, Saturation and Luminosity.Note: The practice images for these lessons have been compressed into a .zip archive. You'll need to double-click on the file after downloading before you'll be able to use the images in Photoshop.

NOTE: Some Windows users have reported issues accessing the video playback controls. While we're working on the issue, here's a Temporary Workaround: Click "Introduction" in the table of contents to the right of the video and then immediately click within the video to give it focus. After doing so, use the spacebar to play/pause the video and the left/right arrow keys to scrub forward or backward within the video.
