The Photoshop Tip of the Week for the Clients and Friends of Ben Willmore:
When using the Type tool in Photoshop 5, keep the following tips in mind:
Don't trust magnifications above 100% in the Type dialog box... Unlike the actual text on your image, this view of the text will never appear jaggy.
Use the up and down arrow keys to change any of the numbers in the Type dialog box, and add the Shift key to change them in larger increments.
You can move your cursor outside of the Type dialog box and onto your image and then click and drag to reposition your text.
Don't worry about getting the size just right because you can always type Command-T (Control-T in Windows) to scale the text after it has been created. It won't harm the quality because all it's doing is changing the size setting.
To change the color of the text after it has been created, change your foreground color and then type Option-Delete (Alt-Backspace in Windows).
To create multi-colored text, create a new layer above the Type layer and type Command-G (Ctrl-G in Windows) before painting--this will make the contents on the new layer only show up inside the shape of the text.
To turn text into a selection, Command-click (Ctrl-click in Windows) on the name of the layer and then throw away the layer.
